MEET THE FOUNDER
Meet Emerentia Tiku
Emerentia, who prefers to be known as Emmy, is the founder of Haven at Home. With over 30 years’ experience in the care industry, Emmy brings deep compassion, professional skill, and lived understanding to every aspect of care.
Professional Experience
Emmy has worked across a wide range of care settings, including residential care homes and domiciliary care within the community. Throughout her career, she has supported individuals with diverse physical and psychological needs, including:
• Dementia
• Learning difficulties
• Mental health conditions
• Down’s syndrome
• Stroke
• Epilepsy
• Elderly and frailty-related care
Her professional responsibilities have included:
• Providing personal care with dignity and respect
• Medication administration and management
• Meal preparation, feeding support, and nutrition
• Mobility assistance and safe transfers
• Accompanying clients to appointments
• Supporting with shopping and financial management
• Ongoing assessment of needs and condition
• Writing care reports and liaising with healthcare
professionals
Emmy has always believed that high-quality care should promote independence, dignity, and confidence wherever possible. Through gentle encouragement and patience, she has helped individuals regain confidence in daily living from reducing reliance on incontinence aids to supporting clients to prepare meals independently.
Personal Motivation and Values
In addition to her professional work, Emmy has also cared for her own parents after they each experienced a stroke at different times. As their primary carer, she enabled them to remain safely in their own home, supporting both their independence and wellbeing. Her mother’s condition improved significantly as a result of the consistent, compassionate care provided.
It was this personal experience that first inspired Emmy to pursue a lifelong career in care — not simply as a job, but as a vocation.
Personality and Approach
Emmy is known for her warm, friendly, and calm nature. She adapts easily to different situations, works well with others, and uses initiative to find practical, thoughtful solutions. Families and colleagues describe her as kind, supportive, and reassuring.
Outside of work, Emmy enjoys gardening, travelling, spending time with family and friends, listening to music (from classical to jazz), and watching nature documentaries. She also loves cooking, particularly fish dishes and meals inspired by African cuisine.
These interests reflect the same care and attention she brings into her professional life — patience, creativity, and genuine love for nurturing others.
Equality & Diversity Statement
At Haven at Home, we are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
We believe that high-quality care is built on valuing people’s unique identities and experiences.
This means:
Respecting diversity
We celebrate and support people of all backgrounds, including
